In high school, life threw its first curveball at Kay Richardson. Expelled as a sophomore, by her senior year, she faced an even bigger challenge - motherhood. But with resilience and grit, Kay transformed her narrative. She secured a scholarship, re-entered school, and graduated against all odds.
Post-high school was no cakewalk either. Relying on public assistance to support her newborn and grappling with college dropout status, Kay sought purpose. Even a puzzling termination from a post office job at age 20 didn't deter her. A twist of fate led her to medical collections - a job she wasn't fond of but clung to out of necessity.
Fast forward to 1998. As a single mother to a 4-year-old, Kay graduated from OTA school. Although elated, she faced the cold truth: joblessness and a mountain of student debt. But adversity had taught Kay to pivot, not panic. At just 24, she ventured into entrepreneurship. Her early days were rocky. Cold calls? A nightmare. Sales pitches? Agonizing. Hours were often spent shedding tears, fearing the looming threat of a 9-5 grind.
Yet, with an indomitable spirit, Kay delved deep into business literature and invested in marketing programs. Her perseverance bore fruit when she sculpted a six-figure independent contracting and ergonomic consulting business by age 28.
Big names like ADOBE, Cargill, Fresh Del Monte Produce, and even the U.S. Government turned to Kay's expertise. Her uncanny skill in decreasing workplace injuries and offering ergonomic training positioned her as a force in her niche.
A RISING STAR IN MARKETING AND POSITIONING...
Kay's early aversion to sales didn't deter her zest for marketing and positioning. It fueled it. Her academic pursuits led her to Florida's top private, not-for-profit university, where she both forged influential partnerships and taught budding entrepreneurs.
With an MBA under her belt, Kay launched the "HER Innovation Hub", a testament to her passion for innovation and empowerment. Forming strategic alliances with powerhouses like Duke University, Nova University, and Miami-Dade County’s Mayor Office, Kay positioned herself as a leader in her domain.
A JOURNEY TO AUTHORSHIP...
It's said that writing is an act of courage, and for Kay, this was no exception. It took a soul-searching year for her to pen her first book, “What a Woman’s Gotta Do: Dig Deep, Make a Decision, Take Action." The book stands as a testament to her journey, her challenges, and her triumphs.
